| Raritan Bay Medical Center | RMBC-213 | Do registered nurses perceive the anchoring of indwelling urinary catheters as a necessary aspect of nursing care? | A descriptive exploratory pilot study was conducted with a convenience sample of 82 medical/surgical and critical care RNs using a newly developed tool. Face and content validity were established. Reliability found to be 0.53. Results of the Catheter Anchoring survey showed that 98% of the RNs agreed that security of the device was a necessary aspect of nursing care, but this response was not congruent with the prevalence data obtained. |
| Raritan Bay Medical Center | 211 | Why Starve? Use of ASA Guidelines in Inpatient and Outpatient Settings | A descriptive exploratory study was conducted with a convenience sample of 75 inpatients and 75 outpatients. As hypothesized, there were no differences in fasting times but there was a significant difference found between fasting instructions and those recommended by the ASA. Policy changes were discussed with OR and Anesthesia committees. |
| Raritan Bay Medical Center | RMBC-215 | The Impact of the Direct Supervisor on the Relationship between RN Job Satisfaction and Patient Satisfaction | This was the first study using Structural Equaton Modeling to test RN-patient relationships. Differences in results from previous studies may be due to types of instruments, data collection processes, timing, and/or statistical testing. Results support the importance of the nurse supervisor role in promoting RN satisfaction. An unexpected benefit was the discovery of “best practice” processes for patient satisfaction data collection. |
