Patient Safety Committee

The Patient Safety Committee is made up of the Patient Safety Officers from Network organizations and meets on an ad hoc basis.  The Committee formed at the PCC's request to use the collective resources of Network hospitals to develop strategies for the growing number of patient safety practice and reporting requirements.  The Committee makes recommendations to the PCC which are presented to the Network Board for endorsement and implementation at member organizations.*

The Committee monitors member performance on the following performance indicators:

  • Leapfrog standards
  • IHI's Saving 100K Lives Campaign Interventions
  • Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality's (AHRQ) Patient Safety Indicators

* The Patient Safety Committee recommended that the Human Resource Council evaluate the inclusion of "accountability for patient safety practices" into leadership performance appraisals and executive compensation programs at all Network organizations.

Critical Care Medical Directors Committee

The Committee is the result of the PCC's interest in creating a forum for physicians with common roles and responsibilities to meet, discuss clinical and administrative issues and benefit from networking.   Dr. John De Tullio, CentraState Medical Center and Dr. Thomas Bokjo, The Bristol-Myers Squibb Children's Hospital at RWJ University Hospital are committee co-chairs.

The Committee meets quarterly and addresses:

  • Critical Care Unit structure and operations
  • Medical Practice Models
  • Development and Implementation of Clinical Protocols
  • Data collection and analysis - including computerized data collection systems
  • Hot topics

Medication Reconciliation Forum

The Forum developed from the PCC's interest in addressing the issues hospitals face in implementing medication reconciliation practices for the benefit of patients across the continuum of care.  It is led by Dr. Benjamin Weinstein, Chief Medical Officer at CentraState Medical Center and PCC Co-chair.  Members:

  • review established policies & procedures,
  • discuss implementation challenges and computerized medication order entry implications,
  • engage in dialogue about successful strategies and
  • discuss the feasibility of having a standard Network approach to medication reconciliation.
